Paul Kurtz

We are sorry to here that Paul Kurtz has died at the age of 87. Paul Kurtz, who has sometimes been called “Mr Humanism”, is the author of some 50 books, translated into more than 60 languages, and over 400 articles. His books include: The Transcendental Temptation, Forbidden Fruit: The Ethics of Secularism, The Courage to Become, and Multi-Secularism: A New Agenda. Paul Kurtz founded, Prometheus Books, in 1969, and was the founder and past chairman of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (formerly the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP)), the Council for Secular Humanism, and the Center for Inquiry. He embraced the term “secular humanism”, invented by Christians as a derogatory term, and promoted it as something positive that all Humanists could endorse.
