Dear Dr. Abdul Malik,

I am writing urgently to you on behalf of the Humanist Society of New Zealand upon receiving the very disturbing news of the abduction in Peshawar of Professor Mohammad Ismail. Professor Ismail was abducted from the gates of Peshawar High Court, where he had appeared at a hearing. Professor Ismail’s lawyer, Fazal Khan, has confirmed the incident, saying he saw men in plainclothes detain his client. We are gravely concerned that someone who is an outstanding citizen of Pakistan, a supporter of sound law and human rights, and one who has broken no laws, has been subjected to this abduction by unknown persons. We ask that urgent action is taken by the government of Pakistan to find Mohammad Ismail, and for him to be immediately returned in good health to his home.

Yours sincerely,

Gaylene Middleton, Secretary, Humanist Society of New Zealand (Inc.)
