Nepal Earthquake

A 7.9 earthquake has caused extensive damage in Kathmandu, Pokhara and surrounding areas. At this stage information is limited. Phone lines are down but news is being sent out to overseas friends via Facebook.

We have news that students and staff of the SOCH Ambience International School (The Nepal Humanist Society’s school) are safe. We have no news of damage to the school or how students’ families have been affected. The earthquake occurred during the day while parent/student interviews were being held, as the new school year is about to begin.

As an initial gesture of solidarity with SOCH, we would like to invite concerned friends to make a donation to the “Foundation Beyond Belief”. There is a targeted fundraising drive organised by the foundation on this page:

When more detailed information is available we will consider organising a direct appeal to help the families and staff of Ambience International School.
